VYS Thunder Black Win WAGS Tournament

Vienna Thunder Black had a fantastic Columbus Day weekend, winning the U15 A Flight of the WAGS Tournament!

The team began the weekend very well, getting two shutout victories in their two games on Saturday. Combined with other results in their bracket of 4 teams, this meant that the team had already clinched a spot in Sunday afternoon’s semifinals and that the final preliminary game was meaningless.

In the semifinal round, Thunder were matched up against Richmond Kickers Elite. Kickers had cruised through their preliminary stage, scoring 10 goals and giving up none to garner their first place standing. Vienna came through on top of a wide open 1-0 win, and with it the right to play in the Championship game on Monday morning.

The final saw the girls matched up against Tampa Bay United Premier, who had won their group and were 2-0 winners in their semifinal game. Tampa Bay grabbed the lead early in the match but Thunder Black was able to equalize just before halftime. The second half saw most of it’s play in the midfield with a few chances on each goal but neither team could put the match away. Vienna went into the penalty shootout with confidence and was able to outscore Tampa in the tiebreaker to win the tournament championship!
