FC Elite Win Dulles Tournament
FC Elite is a new team to Total Futbol for the Fall of 2013, with coach Dan Merold taking the reigns of the group.  Transferring into HYS for the season, the U13 boys were placed into the Champion bracket in their first experience as a host of the Dulles National Tournament.
Their tournament structure was set up for preliminary games on Saturday followed by semifinals and the championship round on Sunday.  The boys began the weekend in great form, coming away 3-1 winners over VYS Raptors Black.  They squared off against Winchester United in the 2nd game and clinched a top seed in the semifinals with a tightly contested 1-0 match.
In the semifinal round the boys were matched up against Burke AC Union.  Their top seed from the day before meant that they would be playing the runner-up from the other side of the bracket but the Burke team had won and drawn yesterday to claim a share of first place and only slipped to the 2nd slot by virtue of tiebreakers.  Nonetheless, Coach Merold’s team won the elimination game 1-0 to move on to a rematch with the Vienna Raptors in the Championship.
While slightly closer than their opening game on the scoreboard, FC Elite powered two goals in while just conceding once en route to their first championship!  Congratulations to the team and to Coach Dan!
