The Better Sports Club of Arlington named Lauren Harkes Girls’ Soccer Sportswoman of the Year at their 59th Annual Awards Banquet on June 3. Harkes, a midfielder for McLean’s graduating '96 player pool, which is coached by Total Futbol Director Nadir Moumen, was a standout player in high school in Fall 2014, winning Washington Post All-Met First Team and Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) All-Conference team honors. She will continue her career at Clemson University this fall.
Harkes plays for two teams coached by Total Futbol Director Nadir Moumen, the McLean ‘96 Girls ECNL team and the McLean ’96 Girls Green team. Recently, she led the ECNL team to the U18 Championship Division title at the prestigious Jefferson Cup showcase in Richmond, VA, scoring 5 goals and notching two assists in three games and earning Potomac Region “Best 11” honors from The Soccer Wire.
The Better Sports Club is a nonprofit community organization in Arlington, VA founded in 1957 on the principal of promoting “useful citizenship through the medium of sports.” The group holds an Annual Awards Banquet each year to recognize Arlington high school athletes who have demonstrated an outstanding achievement in academics, character and athletics.
