Two Teams Coached by Total Futbol Reach Finals at Disney
January 3, 2016

Two Total Futbol teams, Herndon United 99 and Vienna Thunder Black, finished as Finalists of their divisions at the prestigious Disney Soccer Showcase in Orlando, FL, on January 3, kicking off the new year with some skilled soccer and an excellent showing. The Disney event, which organizers like to call "the proving ground", attracted 296 U15-U18 girls teams and hundreds of college coaches from around the nation.

Herndon United 99 were top of the table in the U16 Championship Gray bracket, after defeating teams from Ohio and Kentucky and losing one game to a Florida team. In the Final, United faced another tough home team, IMG Academy U16, and lost by a single goal, 3-4, in a heartbreaker. In all, United scored 10 goals and allowed 8 across its four games in Orlando. The performance capped off an impressive fall season in which the Herndon girls finished as Champions of WAGS U17 Division 1, Virginia State Cup U16 Semi-Finalists, Discovery Cup Semi-Finalists and OBGC Capital Cup Finalists. This spring, the team will compete in the Region I Champions League (U16 Elite Red Division), the Jefferson Cup, and the PDA Showcase.

In the U17 Premier White bracket, Vienna Thunder Black were undefeated, dominating teams from Michigan and Florida before tying a Connecticut squad on day 3 of the event. Seven points from those three contests were enough to send Thunder Black to the Final against NSA Rockets of Illinois. The team was shut out 2-0 in the championship match but ended the tournament with a positive goal differential of 5, having scored 8 goals while conceding just 3. After finishing 2015 as Champions at both the Bethesda Premier Cup and the OBGC Capital Cup, and as Semi-Finalists in the U17 Virginia State Cup, Thunder Black are currently ranked #3 in Virginia by GotSoccer. This spring, the team will compete in the Region I Champions League (U17 Elite Blue Division), the Jefferson Cup, and the PDA Showcase.
