The team went 2-1-1, holding opponents scoreless for the first three matches, while netting five goals. They lost the championship match 1-2 in a close battle.
Herndon Hurricanes White were Finalists in the U13 Girls Blue bracket at The Liberty Cup Invitational. In a hard-fought division, the squad had two wins, a loss and a tie, notching a total of four goals and letting in two. The only defeat (1-0) was to eventual Champions, SYC Force Orange.
Herndon Crossfire persevered in soggy conditions to win the U14 Girls Blue bracket at The Liberty Cup. Crossfire dominated opponents, posting a 4-0-0 record that included three shutouts and allowing just one goal during the tournament. The total goal haul was nine.
Herndon Hurricanes Red were Finalists (2-2-0) in the U13 Girls Gold bracket at the Liberty Cup. They were the only team all tournament to score a goal against the eventual Champions, SYC Force Yellow (4-0-0). In all, the girls scored 10 goals and conceded six, posting one shutout.
The U18 CSC Fusion (in red, above), coached by Total Futbol's Ricky Ramirez, valiantly defend their goal at the Liberty Cup Invitational. Team Manager Theresa Steffen wrote the following summary of the tournament: "In the first game Saturday, Fusion took an early lead and then played a strong defensive game to hold on for a 1-0 win. In the second game, Fusion scored early and often for a 3-0 victory and their second shutout on the day. In the first game on Sunday, Fusion went down 2-0, before losing 1-3 to the eventual champions. In the final game, Fusion went down 1-0, but battled back with three unanswered goals to win 3-1 and finish as Finalists in the High School Girls Gold bracket. Eight goals were scored during the weekend by five different players. Kristen Buttaro led the team with three goals, Giannina Combe had two, and Gabby Bryda, Avery Burton, and Sonia Gupta added one each. Since most of the girls on the team are graduating this spring, this was the last tournament ever for Fusion. It was great to finish on a high note."
