May 19, 2015

Kristina Diana, a standout midfielder from McLean Youth Soccer’s '96 player pool, has won one of youth soccer’s highest honors as the 2014-15 Virginia Gatorade Girls’ Soccer Player of the Year (POY). The prestigious annual award, given by The Gatorade Company in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, recognizes "athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character" demonstrated on and off the field.

In 2015, Diana led her South County High School team to the regular-season conference title and championship game of the conference tournament. She scored 12 goals and five assists, picking up Washington Post First Team, All-Patriot Conference First Team and 6A North Region Player of the Year honors along the way. She will continue her playing career at Virginia Tech starting this fall.

Diana maintained a 3.84 GPA in high school and performed community service with her church, accomplishments which were also noted in her recognition as the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

Diana plays club soccer for the McLean ‘96 Girls ECNL and Green teams, both coached by Total Futbol Director Nadir Moumen. In 16 ECNL games for the 2014-15 season she has scored 9 goals and provided 10 assists, helping her team to win the Mid-Atlantic Conference for the second year in a row and finish as the #2 seed overall in the U18 Champions League qualification standings. As well, Diana helped the Green team win the 2014-15 Virginia State Cup in the U18 age group.
